Gold Standard for Analyzing Total Body Composition
What is DEXA Scan?
A DEXA (Dual-Energy X-ray Absorptiometry) Scan measures bone, fat, and muscle in your body. It is used to monitor bone density and body composition. Low bone density tells a doctor that the patient is at risk of suffering bone fractures and that they may benefit from changes in diet and exercise.
People interested in their own health order a DEXA Scan to get the most precise measure of their fat and muscle, and to see where it is distributed in their body. Using a DEXA Scan lets a person see where they stand and chart their progress.
Hudson Medical + Wellness is currently offering scans for bone density and body composition.
How it works
A DEXA (Dual-Energy X-ray Absorptiometry) Scan bounces two different types of rays off your body and then measures the number of rays that bounce back. The rays are absorbed differently by your body's bone, fat, and muscle, allowing the scanner to measure your body composition.
You will lie down in the bed of the DEXA Scan. The scanner arm passes slowly over you taking measurements. The scan takes about 5 minutes. Results are available immediately and you will meet with one of our Hudson Medical + Wellness providers to go through your results.
DEXA Body Composition Scan gives you the most precise information about your body fat, muscle, and bone composition, and lets you track changes in body composition over time.
Body Composition Scan lets fitness enthusiasts, athletes, and dieters measure body composition. See exactly how much body fat and muscle you have and where. Track your progress as you work through a new program.
DEXA Bone Density Scan is used to measure how strong your bones are. It is commonly used to identify osteoporosis, a condition that causes a decrease in the density of bones resulting in fragility and to determine a person’s risk for developing fractures.
Bone Density Scan helps identify patients at high risk of osteoporosis and bone fractures. By monitoring bone density, physicians and patients can assess risk and proactively treat the problem.
