Remove excess, stubborn body fat
If genes, dieting, and exercise aren’t helping you lose the unwanted, stubborn fat and cellulite from your body, liposuction is a safe and effective solution that can help you achieve the look you’ve always wanted.
How liposuction works
Liposuction can be safely performed using local anesthesia or intravenous sedation, depending on the type of procedure and your needs. During the procedure, your cosmetic surgeon will make one (or more) small incisions near the treatment area where a thin tube is inserted; the tube will then loosen and suction out the unwanted fat beneath the skin, leaving you with the defined look you desire.
When to Consider Fat Removal Liposuction:
- If you have localized areas of fat deposits that are disproportionate with the rest of your body
- If you would like more definition or a sleeker contour in certain areas of your body
- If your skin elasticity is good (Liposuction removes fat, but does not tighten skin)
Frequently asked questions

What is fat reduction surgery?
Fat reduction surgery may encompass several different procedures, including small “laser liposuction” office-based procedures, or larger volume liposuction (in an operating room). These procedures also typically include removal of skin (i.e. – “tummy tuck”).
Which fat reduction treatments are available?
How much weight can I lose with liposuction?
Surgeries that are designed to remove fat (like liposuction), are NOT weight loss procedures; it may appear as if you lost weight, but this is due to localized fat loss, not overall weight loss. However, because fat is removed from cosmetically important areas, liposuction should produce the aesthetic improvements you’re looking for.
Will the fat cells grow back after liposuction?
Liposuction removes fat cells permanently, however, if you gain a significant amount of weight after your procedure, then new fat cells can develop.
What happens if I gain weight after liposuction?
The more weight a patient gains after liposuction, the less dramatic the results of liposuction will be. Ideally, a patient should weigh less after liposuction by an amount equal to the weight of the removed fat. A BMI of 35 is considered the cutoff for safe cosmetic surgery as well as a stable weight for a period of 1 year. For example, if you weigh 150 lbs and liposuction removes 8 lbs of fat, keeping your weight at 142 lbs would be ideal to maintain the desired look; however, if you go up to 160 lb, you begin compromising the desired results.
If I gain weight, does fat come back in the treated areas?
If you do not gain a significant amount of weight after the surgery, fat usually doesn’t come back in treated areas. If you gain a significant amount of weight, then fat can return to an area previously treated by liposuction, however, relatively less fat accumulates in treated areas compared to untreated areas.
What can I expect if I get pregnant after liposuction?
Pregnancy does not permanently alter the results of liposuction. If you have liposuction and become pregnant, gain weight, give birth, and lose the excess weight of pregnancy, then your original liposuction improvements will return.
How long will it be until I see results?
Most patients see 90% of their ultimate liposuction results within one to three months after surgery.
Is there swelling after surgery?
For the first few weeks after surgery, there is postoperative swelling. The rate at which this swelling subsides depends on the surgeon’s surgical technique and method for postoperative care. Ultrasonic assisted liposuction (UAL) is associated with prolonged postoperative swelling. When the surgeon’s operative technique uses adits (round holes) that are left open, instead of linear incisions closed with stitches, patients can expect to see 90% of the ultimate results within four weeks. When the surgeon closes the incisions with stitches, swelling usually resolves within eight to twelve weeks.
Will liposuction help cellulite (cottage-cheese-like dimpling) or sagging skin?
No. After liposuction, cellulite or sagging skin usually does not improve to a significant degree. Liposuction improves the shape of the body, but does not significantly improve the quality of skin texture.
Will liposuction improve my “belly pooch” from my last pregnancy?
Yes, liposuction typically provides excellent improvement of the abdomen after pregnancy. In fact, for the vast majority of patients, liposuction provides a better and more natural appearance than a tummy tuck.
