What is stem cell therapy?

Stem cell therapy is a procedure in which stem cells are implanted into damaged or diseased tissue to promote regeneration and repair. Stem cells are undifferentiated cells in the human body with the ability to mature into various cell types such as blood cells, cartilage cells, and repair cells. A specific type of stem cells called mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) is commonly used for the treatment of orthopedic conditions, as they can be manipulated to differentiate specifically into bone or cartilage cells. They also promote the regeneration of native bone cells.

Our Approach

Here at Hudson Medical + Wellness, we use same-day procedures and autologous bone marrow samples, meaning that the bone marrow sample is from the patient’s own body. On the day of the procedure, we take a bone marrow sample from the patient’s hip, capture the stem cells, and re-inject them into the damaged area along with growth factors and healing factors from the patient’s blood to aid in the body’s natural healing process.

While some patients feel better within a week of stem cell therapy, patients should allow 6-8 weeks to notice improvements with continued improvement for up to 6 months or longer.

What are the benefits of stem cell therapy?

The benefits of stem cell therapy include:

+ Safe: Because the stem cells are obtained from the patient’s own body, there is no risk of developing an allergic or immunologic reaction to the injectate.

+ Minimally-invasive: Stem cell therapy is minimally invasive, meaning that there is minimal risk of complications.

+ Avoidance of invasive surgery: Stem cell therapy administered in concert with PRP injections often leads to avoidance of joint surgery or decreased dependence on pain medications.

+ All-natural: By using your own harvested stem cells, you are giving your body a chance to heal itself naturally.
